Emerge is a small cabin for the Bauman Family Tree Farm  in Oregon. The project was designed to hold small gatherings of teachers and students who are attending the tree farm’s education program. Emerge is placed within the forest to draw visitors into contact with new growth, old growth, and the conservation easement in the surrounding woodland. The interior can be occupied in different ways by arranging or storing CLT sitting blocks and a floor/table in desired arrangements depending upon the occasion.

Emerge is the first PLAIN Design-Build project at UNL and was established to advance student knowledge of advanced mass timber construction and the practice of sustainable forestry. The program combines first-hand experience of CLT building technology with the design challenge of communicating knowledge of forestry production via a local tree farm’s educational outreach program.
